Founded at a similar time, UNIDO and the African, Caribbean and the Pacific Group of States (79 Member States) have a long-standing relationship. It cumulated in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding and a Relationship Agreement in 2011, which expresses a strong will to cooperate more closely. The objective of the agreements is to reinforce capacities of the ACP countries Group of States to industrialize and build up a strong private industrial sector that is competitive, creates local jobs, and takes care of the environment. UNIDO is moving the partnership with the OACPS to the next level by engaging on high potential areas such as Private Sector Development, Climate Action and Environment, Agribusiness and Food Security and Creative Industries and galvanizing support for IDDA III. UNIDO is also providing technical support to position ISID in the Post-Cotonou Partnership Agreement with the EU.

2020 July: UNIDO Director General Mr. LI Yong meets with OACPS Secretary General H.E. Mr. Georges Chikoti in Brussels, Belgium
The Director General LI Yong and the Secretary-General of the Organization of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS), Georges Rebelo Chikoti, agreed to enhance their partnership and to strengthen UNIDO’s support for the OACPS Secretariat and Member States in the context of the Post-Cotonou agreement.
As UNIDO is tasked to lead the implementation of the Third Industrial Development Decade for Africa 2016-2025 (IDDA III), UNIDO and the OACPS will work closely with over 30 partners to include social, economic and environmental dimensions in development.

2019 December: UNIDO at 9th ACP Summit of Heads of State and Government in Nairobi, Kenya
The Secretariat of the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Group of States has announced that the 9th ACP Summit of Heads of State and Government will take place from 9 to 10 December 2019 in Nairobi, Kenya. The Summit is themed “A Transformed ACP: Committed to Multilateralism” and will be preceded by Ministerial Sessions from 6 to 8 December at the same venue.
The Summit comes at an auspicious time for the ACP Group as it prepares to finalise the Post-Cotonou negotiations as well as the revision to its Constitutive Act, the Georgetown Agreement. At the 110th Session of the ACP Council of Ministers which will precede the Summit, Ministers will appoint the next Secretary General for the term 2020 to 2025. The tenure of the current Senior Management Team expires on 28 February 2020.
