UNIDO established a constructive dialogue with the European Investment Bank (EIB)
A constructive dialogue with the EIB has been established through various meetings on potential joint activities and cooperation in the area of blending UNIDO’s technical assistance with EIB’s financing for higher impact. This dialogue led to the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding in July 2015 to jointly promote inclusive and sustainable industrial development, particularly in Africa. Future joint activities will include investment support, technical assistance, and sharing of good practices and lessons learned.
2019 July: UNIDO Director General met with the president of the European Investment Bank in Vienna, Austria
VIENNA, 12 July 2019 – UNIDO Director General LI Yong met with Werner Hoyer, president of the European Investment Bank (EIB) in EIB Headquarters, Luxembourg. The meeting provided opportunity to discuss partnership prospects within the scope of IDDA III, circular economy, PCPs - including Morocco, Egypt, Cote d’Ivoire. It has been agreed to further expand the partnership with a renewed MoU.
2018 November: European Investment Bank and UNIDO co-host Africa Day in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
ADDIS ABABA, 22 November 2018 - The European Investment Bank (EIB) and UNIDO have co-hosted the EIB Africa Day 2018 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. UNIDO’s Director General, LI Yong, and EIB President, Werner Hoyer, opened the high-level event, alongside H.E. Sahle-Work Zewde, President of Ethiopia. This year’s EIB Africa Day focused on the theme of sustainable industrialization in Africa, and emphasized the importance of inclusive and sustainable industrial development for the continent’s future. The high-level panels of the event approached the topic from business, policy and financing angles, while reflecting on such key international milestones as the Third Industrial Decade for Africa (IDDA III) and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
