UNIDO collaboration with the European Parliament

UNIDO closely follows the work of the EP Committees, especially DEVE (Development), AFET (Foreign Affairs), ITRE (Industry, Research, and Innovation), INTA (International Trade), ENVI (Environment, Public Health, and Food Safety). In 2022, UNIDO will organize a photo exhibition inside the Parliament to showcase UNIDO projects which are EU funded and bring more visibility to the success stories which improve people’s lives. UNIDO has regularly been invited to speak on certain matters such as sustainable energy, productive work for youth, industrial pollution, digitalization, cooperation with Africa and Central Asia, private sector development, and others. The continuous dialogue with MEPs touches upon a wide range of issues related to EU development policies, including industrial development and cooperation, food security, poverty reduction, private sector development, climate change, and green industry.

2019 July: UNIDO Representative meets with Members of the European Parliament (MEP)

UNIDO Representative in Brussels, Patrick Gilabert has been meeting with several Members of the European Parliament, namely among others with Alicia Homs (Spain), Lina Galvez Munoz (Spain), Lukas Mandl (German), Anna-Michelle Asimakopoulou (Greece), Marc Tarabella (Belgium), Louis Stedman-Bryce (UK), Helmut Scholz (Germany), Christophe Grudler (France). This strategic engagement aims at presenting UNIDO’s mandate to democratically elected high-officials from all political boards and all nationalities, advocating for more inclusivity and sustainability in EU industrial policies, and increasing UNIDO’s visibility across EU Institutions.

Bucharest, 19 March 2019/ACP: The 37th plenary of the Joint Parliamentary Assembly(JPA) was formally opened on Monday 18 March by Louis Michel and Joseph Owana Kono, co-presidents of the Joint Parliamentary Assembly (JPA), Maria-Magdalena Grigore, State Secretary in the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Călin Popescu Tăriceanu, President of the Romanian Senate.

2018 October: UNIDO at the African Diaspora Entrepreneurship and Award in Brussels, Belgium 

BRUSSELS, 9 October 2018 – Under the patronage of Antonio Tajani, President of the European Parliament, the African Diaspora Network in Europe (ADNE) organized a conference on 5 October 2018 for the Global Diaspora Week, which is dedicated to diaspora communities and their contributions to global development.

 

Under the theme “Boosting the Digital Agenda and Innovation for Development”, the conference featured numerous panels that presented achievements of the diaspora and of its partner organizations. During the introductory session, and while referring to the importance of Africa for innovation, the African Institute for Science and Mathematics’ Thierry Zomahoun said: “the future of the digital revolution is taking place in Africa. Africa is the cradle of innovation”.

The Global Diaspora Week (GDW) is a week dedicated to diaspora communities and their contributions to global development. The GDW is intended to create awareness, enable collaboration and enhance learning amongst those working with diaspora communities in different locations around the world.
